How to gain top sipping skills – WSET

After a few months working on a casual basis in a wine shop in London about 20 years ago the store manager asked me if I intended to stay on, because if I did, then I would have to start studying the WSET’s – meaning the Wine & Spirit Education Trust Courses. In the UK, these courses are considered industry standard – you can’t work for very long, or successfully, in the wine industry without being expected to do the qualifications.

Today Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a household name – internationally. Yet Marlborough as a wine-producing region was first established in 1973, which is considered relatively recent amongst world-renowned regions. Also, until around a decade ago, Chardonnay was the most widely planted variety. And, before Chardonnay, the country’s most widely planted variety was Muller-Thurgau – a German white grape variety commonly used to produce simple, fruity wines often distributed in bulk or bag-in-box formats.

A Slice of Orange

Orange is one of Australia’s gourmet capitals. The number of festivals and events held by this region, which is situated about three and half hours drive west of Sydney, far exceeds that expected from a very quaint, sparsely populated locale. It basically testament to the fact that these guys and girls from Orange sure know how to put on a party!
